ACCESSIBILITY / FIELD GUIDE

An accessible welcome starts online.

Make it easier for guests to understand the property and complete a booking.

Describe what exists

Replace broad claims such as fully accessible with verified information about the facilities a guest may need. Provide useful photographs and a way to ask specific questions. The hotel’s team should confirm current conditions rather than relying on an old listing.

Check the digital journey

W3C describes accessibility as enabling people with disabilities to perceive, understand, navigate and interact with the web. For a hotel, that includes readable content, labelled forms, meaningful image alternatives and keyboard access to booking controls. Review the external booking engine as well as the hotel’s own pages.

Use more than an automated score

Include manual checks and, where possible, feedback from people with different access needs. A tool can identify some defects but cannot establish full accessibility on its own. Log issues with the responsible team and verify the fixes. Publish contact options that let guests choose a channel they can use.

PUT IT INTO PRACTICE

  • Verify facility descriptions with operations.
  • Try the booking journey using a keyboard.
  • Check form labels, error messages and assistance options.

What to observe

Track unresolved access issues and successful completion of key tasks.
